Community media and gender

Community media is in a unique position to address issues of gender inequality. Their important place in the community, and their mandate to “give voice to the voiceless” often means they report on the issues that mainstream media miss. Most stations have also recognised that gender is central to their visions, and are putting in place pro-active measures to ensure that women are represented as media makers, sources, and decision-makers.
